Graspop Sunday (Day 3)

Got up fairly late both Phil and Myself felt a bit rough, most likely we were dehydrated from the heat, along with neck pain from headbanging and windmilling yesterday. We eventually dragged ourselves up and headed in around 1:15. We caught the end of Anvil, then toddled over to Amorphis who were a little different. Then phil and I wriggled our way deep into the slave pit of GWAR, had to go right to front, not worth going to a GWAR gig and not getting covered in blood! I enjoyed them, they had a ‘new’ character of sawboy destructo, yes I thought it was meant to be techno destructo too… think Phil had a good time did (The blood is still in places 2 showers later)
Moonsorrow was a chill out for us in the sun, probably got sunburn here as just lay in sun outside the stage. Then Mastodon on main stage, not quite what I was expecting but good anyway, I’m sure their own concerts are better.
Bit of a break for us to charge phones and get something to eat (more waffles I think) we sat near back with ‘Drew eating/drinking for Avenged Sevenfold, who actually didn’t get on my nerves much (though I wasn’t paying attention) and they did have a good stage set of some metal gates on fire.
We split off from drew again and caught Dublin Death Patrol who had a stage presence not too dissimilar to Dropkick Murphies IMO, they were very good punky metal band who played some awesome cover versions of Motörhead and Thin Lizzy songs.
It was then remeet with drew for more waffle, ice cream and Rob Zombie time, I thought he gave a better interactive performance and he also had a stripper this time too. Same setlist i think but less stage props which was a shame but maybe a result of mainstage 40,000 performance against inside headline tour, manageable stage lighting and backstage area. It was an entertaining show and a good banana ice cream waffle, I was happy.
We then split off again, Phil and I went to the Jupiler bar and were entertained by the drunks moshing about inside for an hour.
We were pretty hungry afterwards and I had noticed a Jacket Potato stand had dropped it’s price from 3 to 2 tokens (€5) so not too bad, I ordered one and my god you got your money’s worth! All toppings; mostly various types of salad but there was also cheese and beef strips and either cheese sauce or very thin cheesey mash and yeah I didn’t feel ripped off at all :-p
Slipknot take the stage and with only a no big screen issue to start with performed a very ‘best of’ setlist in boiler suits, I very much preferred them this time to the last I saw them at their own gig in Manchester (where I was pretty bored and disliked them to be fair)
They only played one new album song, psychosocial which i was happy with because I don’t like the new album much. Happy times. On the way out afterwards some woman threw all her tokens away on the floor, we found 17 and naturally hit the bar, so about €42.50 worth of free beer later we then went back to our tent, for the warmest night yet.
We managed to get out in the morning pretty quick indeed and off to the station, and miraculously onto the next train in to Antwerp, changed at Antwerp for Amsterdam to meet some friends. Managed to get a seat and enjoyed resting our feet :-D talking about the festival
