NovaRock Saturday (Day 1)

Holy hell the Austrian Festival NovaRock is expensive. You’re looking at €4.50 a pint of beer in arena €4 a single slice of pizza, vaguely €6 anything slightly substantial. We’re very hot and the bands today (Saturday, 1st day) aren’t really our thing. People are generally friendly and understanding usually knowing a little English too. Turisas were good, we then bought a crate of beer and took that back to tent and drank around for a bit. I wanted to watch Guano Apes so we set off for lunch and then sat/lay in shade waiting for Guano Apes who were ok but no real show, which was a shame, so Phil and I just rested in the shade out the heat.
After dragging ourselves to our feet and brushing off the dust and strawy stuff (it is a bit crazy here no grass, just wheat stems, which are pretty sharp, especially on a barefoot walk around the tents) we headed off to catch a bit of hammerfall, who were better than they were last year in Wolverhampton, (we figure they’re better at festivals than in private.) retired to our tent and listened to ‘In Extremo’ who are quite a good folky metal band like ‘tanzwut’ or ‘subway to sally’ after another beer we went back to red stage again (can’t do that at Download these days eh!) and caught the Darkness who were pretty good actually, and seemed to have shaken off their gimmicky act and could easily be playing arenas again in a few years with a new good album under their belts. Followig the darkness on blue stage was Linkin Park who sound just like the cd, perform just like in videos (we may as well have watched scuzz tv channel or something) but at least Phil can say he’s seen ‘em now. We had an amazingly good thai curry, spicy noodles and springrolls meal and caught a bt of sisters of mercy, they had the screens/camera off though so unless at front no show to see, so we left had another beer or two and slept, I had a great sleep and I put it down to a pair of earplugs we found earlier that day. Looking forward to sunday and monday bands :-D and our little pots of honey we stole from hotel as breakfast (it is very good honey)
